Azerbaijan approves action plan over nineteenth anniversary of Khojaly genocideThe Azerbaijani presidential administration head signed an order to approve an action plan on the nineteenth anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the AzerTaj state news agency reported.
The document envisages putting wreaths at monuments to victims of the genocide in the Khatai district and town of Naftalan, issuing an appeal by Khojaly residents and IDPs to world countries and international organizations, organizing press conferences and commemorative events in Azerbaijan's embassies, representations and diaspora organizations, and preparing and broadcasting relevant TV and radio programs.
Under the document, a series of events to commemorate the memory of the Khojali martyrs, including photo exhibitions and meetings with eyewitnesses, will be held in enterprises, theaters and concert halls, and schools and higher educational institutions across the country.
Aid will be provided to residents of Khojaly temporarily residing in the cities and districts of Baku, Sumgait, Ganja, Mingachevir, Sheki, Naftalan, Goranboy, Barda,
Sabirabad, Goychay, Zagatala, Oguz , Balakian, and to the families of martyrs, with the participation of heads of official government agencies, MPs, and representatives of the intelligentsia.
On the eve of the anniversary, materials on the Khojaly genocide will be posted on the Internet. The media will distribute materials about the terrible tragedy that occurred in February 1992.
The Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb. 26, 1992. More than 600 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. A total of 1,000 civilians were disabled during the genocide. Eight families were annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, and 25 lost both parents. Additionally, 1,275 peaceful residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown.
